Child TDAP vaccine

The TDAP vaccine consists of a single shot and boosters offering immunization against Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis. Diphtheria causes serious bacterial infections of the throat and tonsils. Tetanus is a life-threatening bacterial infection acquired when a break in the skin occurs in unclean circumstances. Tetanus infection leads to progressive muscle rigidity, paralysis, and death if untreated. Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection that causes a barking cough and affects the child's ability to easily breathe. Children need up to 5 initial TDAP vaccinations to be properly immunized for school entry.
