Ear biopsy

An ear biopsy is used to test the skin of the outer ear for skin cancer. This can be done by obtaining a shave biopsy or a punch biopsy of the skin. The type of biopsy will depend on the main lesion suspected. The punch biopsy is performed with circular instruments that collect the underlying subcutaneous tissue. It is preferred when melanoma is suspected or when the lesions are deep, while a shave biopsy is ideal for superficial lesions when melanoma is not suspected.
