Macular degeneration surgery

Macular degeneration is a disease that permanently damages the most sensitive parts of the retina, affecting vision. This condition can be treated with different approaches. Conservative methods may include vitamins and mineral supplements, while minimally invasive treatments include intravitreal injections, photodynamic therapy, or laser photocoagulation surgery. Laser photocoagulation surgery for macular degeneration is indicated in more advanced stages of the disease. This is an outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia. Before the surgery, drops for anesthesia will be administered and the pupils dilated. A special holder will be placed in your eye to prevent you from moving it while your doctor uses the laser to repair the damage.
