Plantar fascia release surgery
Plantar fasciitis involves inflammation of the ligament covering the calcaneus (heel) bone. Around 80% of cases resolve without surgery; however, surgery may be necessary in difficult cases. The most common outpatient surgery for plantar fascia release is called Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy (EPF). This procedure consists of the introduction of small surgical instruments and a camera through a small incision on the bottom of the foot to detach the fascia from the bone. This procedure can be performed under sedation or general anesthesia.
