Rabies vaccine

This vaccine is recommended as a form of prevention for any individual who is exposed to the virus because of occupational or residency reasons. Some occupations that warrant this vaccination are certain laboratory staff, people working with animals, and wildlife officers. Residents or travelers going into rabies-affected areas where there is a possibility of contact with wild animals such as bats, raccoons, skunks, or foxes should also receive this vaccine. Rabies pre-exposure immunization consists of 3 doses at 0, 7, and at least 21 days apart. Immediate post-exposure vaccination (after a high-risk bite) consists of 4 doses in non-immune individuals, and 2 doses in previously vaccinated individuals.
