Retinal detachment repair/surgery

Retinal detachment repair is done using a procedure known as pneumatic retinopexy or gas bubble placement which allows re-attachment of the retina back to the wall of the ocular globe. Retinal detachment is an emergency situation that requires immediate attention by an ophthalmologist. You may need retinal detachment surgery if you notice a sudden loss or decrease in vision with other symptoms, such as seeing a curtain-like shadow, floaters, lights, or progressive visual reduction in your peripheral visual field. This surgery can be performed in an outpatient setting. Your doctor will inject a bubble of gas into your eye and use a laser to complete the repair. It is very important that you strictly follow the doctor's instructions after the surgery to promote successful reattachment. Occasionally, more than one surgery may be needed for complete retina detachment.
