Routine oral examinations are an effective way to prevent and detect oral diseases, such as periodontal disease, cavities, or oral cancer, at an early stage. It is estimated that 50% of adults over 30 years old have some form of periodontal disease as a result of chronic infection and inflammation of the gums. Periodontal disease has been associated with multiple systemic diseases and is known to affect overall health. During an oral exam, your dentist will perform a detailed oral exam, perform x-rays if needed, and discuss with you solutions to improve or maintain adequate oral health.
