Audiology exam (hearing test)

The audiometry or hearing test is a painless test to check for hearing problems. It measures the ability to hear certain frequencies, pitches, and sounds by having you listen to sounds using headphones in a quiet area or booth. The test can determine if you have hearing deficits and will show what type of hearing loss you have. Certain types of hearing deficits can be treated with hearing aids. The audiometry test can show if hearing aids will improve your hearing. Audiometry can also identify the percentage of words you can recognize, which is a good way to detect mild or early hearing loss.
