Obstetric Ultrasound, Biophysical Profile
A biophysical profile ultrasound is generally performed in the third trimester of pregnancy. The goal is to assess the physical health of the fetus. The ultrasound technician will look at the fetus's movements, heart rate, breathing attempts, fetal tone, and amniotic fluid volume to create a score to determine the probable health of the fetus should it remain in the uterus for the immediate short term versus needing to be born through an obstetric intervention soon.
